What cookies and local storage are
Cookies are small text records that a website or service asks a browser to store. Local storage is a related browser feature that allows a site to retain a value on a device. Both can support basic operation, remember choices or help understand service use. They do not read unrelated files from a device.
This site uses local storage to remember the choice made in the cookie banner. Optional functionality is only enabled in line with the selection recorded through the banner. Server infrastructure may also use short-lived technical mechanisms required to deliver pages securely.
Storage categories
| Category | Purpose | Typical duration | Choice |
|---|---|---|---|
| Essential | Remembers the cookie-banner response, supports security and delivers requested pages. | Until replaced or cleared; security records may be session-based. | Required for the selected service and basic operation. |
| Analytics | Would measure aggregated page use, navigation and technical performance if an analytics service is introduced. | Set out in the banner before use. | Requires an applicable consent choice before non-essential analytics storage is set. |
| Functional | Remembers optional display or convenience settings selected by the visitor. | Until the preference is changed or browser storage is cleared. | Optional and controlled through preferences. |
Consent and preference controls
The banner provides three controls. “Accept All” records acceptance of optional categories. “Reject Non-Essential” records a choice limited to essential storage. “Preferences” opens a panel where available optional settings can be reviewed. The choice is retained in local storage so the banner does not need to appear on every page view.
Clearing site data in the browser removes the stored choice and causes the banner to appear again. If browser settings block all local storage, the site may be unable to remember a selection between visits, although editorial pages should remain readable.
Analytics
The site’s current pages do not call an external analytics platform. The analytics category is retained in this policy and consent interface so any future measurement service must be introduced transparently and placed behind the relevant consent control. Before such a service is activated, this policy will identify the provider, purposes, storage names, duration and any international transfers.
Hosting providers may create security and access logs as part of delivering web pages. Those server records are used for security, reliability and fault diagnosis rather than advertising profiles. More information about technical data and lawful bases appears in the privacy policy.
Browser controls
Most browsers allow users to inspect, delete or block cookies and site data. Controls are commonly found under privacy, security or site settings. A visitor can delete data for this domain alone or configure the browser to clear storage when it closes. Private-browsing modes also generally limit persistence after the private session ends.
Blocking essential storage can cause repeated notices or prevent a selected preference from being retained. Browser “do not track” signals are not applied consistently across the web. Where a legally recognised opt-out signal applies to a processing activity, it will be honoured as required.
Third-party content
Editorial references may link to external organisers, clubs, transport operators and governing bodies. Following a link takes the visitor to a separate service that may set its own cookies. Those cookies are governed by the third party’s policy and controls. This site does not embed third-party videos, maps or social feeds that automatically place cross-site marketing cookies on page load.
Updates and contact
This policy may change if browser storage, site features or legal requirements change. The version available on this page applies from the date it is published. Questions about cookie use or requests concerning associated personal data may be sent to [email protected] or posted to Turnstile Almanac Media Ltd, 27 Bramble Wharf, Marden Street, Salford, M5 4QJ, United Kingdom.
